I paint the waves at the beach to remind me of the power of the surf and the feel of the sand between my toes and I paint the water crashing against the rocks to remind me of the awe-inspiring power of Mother Nature. I paint the sky because it offers me an amazing amount of inspiration from the unique cloud formations to the brilliant oranges, purples, and yellows of daybreak. Nature never fails to inspire me, and you will find a variety of subjects in my portfolio that range from the beaches to the mountains to the skies above.
I want you to be able to gaze at my landscape paintings and remember that energizing feeling that you got when you watched the sky turn into a kaleidoscope of colors. I want you to remember the smell of burning leaves in the fall and the crisp feel of winter when you see the barren tree limbs. Most of all I want you to appreciate the amazing beauty of nature. When I was young, I used to draw trees and I would spend hours sketching every branch and twig. I would make the trunks incredibly detailed, but I never really liked drawing the leaves. I gravitated towards the barren trees with the spindly branches reaching up towards the sky. That love of trees has not changed and I still enjoy painting trees in my landscapes except now I usually have them cast against a colorful sky with beautiful cloud formations. I love the colors of the sky when the day is just beginning and when it is coming to an end. One brings hope and clarity and the other brings things to a close and a chance to start again.
Some days my soul beats to a drum going a thousand beats a minute, where I expect my art to move with me, where space and time merge into one and where the colors compete for the same position on the canvas. A jumble of swirls and colors that will motivate my mind and wake up my senses my abstracts have never been called boring. Stimulating and bright would be the better assessment and they round out my repertoire of artistic styles.
To me a job as fine art artist is not a job but a privilege to be able to work in my studio surrounded by so much color and texture and to be able to put it on the canvas in such a way that creates something lasting and beautiful. I enjoy working with soft, and oil pastels because I can move the pigment to be a soft muted look or keep it unblended for a crisp focused appearance. My watercolor pieces vary from drippy blended looks to detailed landscapes. When I want to tighten up the details I turn to line and wash or pen and ink. When I want to mix it up and be crazy, I turn to my digital works. My acrylics, oils and alcohol inks cover up the rest of the space in my studio, but my favorite medium right now is my pastels. I had worked a little with them years ago then I stepped away from them as I tried the other mediums, but something pulled me back and I am so happy that it did. It is the medium that speaks to me the loudest and I am incredibly happy to let my hands speak my vision back.
I am both an artist and a collector, and I want to create pieces that make you feel like you want to stop and gaze at them each time you walk by. I believe art should make you feel something, and I make pieces to bring you clarity to wind down from the busy day, or paintings that are colorful and chaotic to energize you. I tend to use bright colors in my work, and my wardrobe, and I think the use of color in a painting can reflect a lot about you as a person. I think color is very uplifting and I find my style to be energizing and hopeful like when I look at a Monet, or a Degas or a Rembrandt. Their use of color and soft impressionistic strokes brings life to their vision and lights up the walls that they are on. Their work is so timeless, and I hope art collectors will become so familiar with my art it will be common to hear that not only have they picked up a classic by Renoir, but they added a recent piece by Kimberly LeClaire to their collection.
Peruse my catalog of offerings and see which series or style you find that moves you.
